Let me rant for a second about some of the shit I've been reading on livejournal.
If any of you think for a fucking second that Team Canada "didn't think they had to work for it", or "didn't deserve it", or "expected to have it handed to them", I'd be willing to break your teeth. Are you kidding me? No one wants it more than Team Canada. It's not about the glory. It's not about being the best. It isn't just another tournament.
This is everything to those kids. You have no clue what it means to be named to a Canadian national team. Some of these kids won't make it to the NHL. This is EVERYTHING.
You think they didn't work hard?
Where was your team? I don't think they were scoring 5+ goals in every game of the tournament, going over 60% on the powerplay.
When did your team scrape back from a 3-0 defecit against their biggest rivals? When did one of your draft eligible players take the game into his own hands and make damn sure that his team never faltered? Where were the top American players when they were playing in their biggest game? I think they were letting Canada dominate 50 minutes of the game. I think they were pulling dirty, disgusting tricks from the bench as Canadian players skated by.
Where was your team clawing for the tieing goal with five seconds left? Where was your 8th defenseman fighting off three opposing players to keep the puck in with the tournament on the line? Where was your smallest player scoring the biggest goal of the tournament, by ANY team? Didn't work for it? Who are you KIDDING. Where was your goalie, making up for his weak play in regulation by shutting the door in the shootout?
Where was your team in the Gold Medal Game? Were they killing off all 9 penalties? Dealing with refs who let a completely illegal play by Victor Hedman slide? Scoring less than a minute in and never faltering? Showing their discipline against a team that swore revenge and talked shit all tournament?
